Over the past year, England has seen a shortage in the supply of cement due to complications that have occurred as a ripple effect from the national lockdowns. In response to the pandemic governments across the globe had to implement strict lockdowns to reduce the spread of the virus. Unfortunately, this has affected the construction industry in several ways, in this blog we will discuss how it has affected the supply of cement.
In April 2021, cement was added to the Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) list of products facing shortages. The Chief Executive of the US Mineral Products Association (MPA) stated that the biggest impact has been seen in the levels of bagged cement that is usually used in domestic projects. This caused some manufacturers to ration the supply of the construction material.
However, in positive news, it was reported by the MPA’s Chief Executive that the supply of bulk cement (which makes up over eighty percent of the US market) has returned to normal. The Chief Executive stated that there aren’t any projects that have been greatly impacted by bulk cement shortages. In contrast, bagged cement shortages continue to rise due to increased demand following the easing of lockdown restrictions, but it has been confirmed by the MPA’s CE that this is looking to be resolved within the coming months.
